As a by-product of our training we have several projects which result in product for sale to the general public. Which are sold either through the website, at various farmers markets or direct from the Eco-Centre.  Plant Nursery and Horticultural Learning Zone

At the Fedw Hir site we have a large area devoted to growing a wide range of flowers, vegetables and herbs. Most are raised from seeds and cuttings with the emphasis at all stages being on education learning and practical experience.

We have a number of keen and enthusiastic volunteers without which the project would not be possible. We sell most of what we grow at the Farmers Market in Merthyr Tydfil which takes place on the first Friday of each month.

The following are the main types of plants we grow:

Bedding Plants

Varieties include Marigolds, Pansies & Violas, Bidens, Wallflowers, Primula, Sweet Peas and Cosmos. Prices start from 99p for a 9cm pot.

Herbs

Very useful in cooking, our best sellers are Parsley, Sage, Thyme, Lemon Balm and Mint. We sell them individually for 99p and this year we plan to do multipack mixes of those most popular, 6 herbs for £4.99.

Vegetables

Last season we grew as wide a range as possible of vegetables with a number of varieties of each. This year we will concentrate on those varieties we have confidence will sell.

These include garlic & onions, potatoes, carrots, broad and runner beans, peas and carrots. Protected crops will include tomatoes, cucumbers and salad crops.

All are grown without the use of chemicals.

Prices are seasonal but competitive and reflect the freshness and quality of what we produce.

The Horticultural Learning Zone is an on-going project and monies raised from sales will help sustain our activities and benefit the many adults and young people who contribute to the venture.

Visitors are welcome to come and take a look at the project and meet staff and volunteers.
